I currently have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Logistics to work for a market leading Manufacturer in the West Midlands.

My client are a Global Manufacturing business with a flagship operation based in the West Midlands.

They are looking for a Head of Logistics to manage and oversee the daily operations of their logistics facility as well as manage their freight operations. This is a high profile role in an organisation with an impressive client list and your goal will be to safeguard the efficiency of the company's operations to facilitate development and long-term success.

As the Head of Logistics, you will have full accountability for operational delivery, including management responsibility for the warehousing and freight teams, implementation and delivery against a range of relevant operational KPI's, and successful performance against health and safety targets.

Operating in a fast-paced, progressive business, the successful individual must have a strong track record of success in an industrial setting be it Automotive, Defence or Manufacturing and combine exceptional business focus with a track record developing best in class logistics operations.

Gravitas and listening skills are key requirements, with a focus on operational delivery and continuous improvement. Innovation plus the ability to be performance focused is key, as is being able to challenge and drive real change across the operation.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • To manage and report full P&L delivery for the site on a monthly basis (in line with set budgets)
  • To manage the operational output of the site on a daily basis
  • Maintain and continuously improve together with expert providers the warehouse physical and information and data systems infrastructure, eg WMS system, VLMs, FLTs and MHE
  • Develop and implement inventory control systems with a focus on traceability, investigation and analysis
  • Day to day line management responsibility for the key direct reports within warehousing, inventory, H&S and freight
  • To drive and ensure delivery of agreed savings targets, ensuring that performance against agreed levels are continually measured, delivered and reported in an accurate and timely way
  • Responsibility for review and timely negotiation on key contracts specific to the logistics operation (temp, forklifts, couriers, etc)
  • To ensure the site is operating to maximum efficiency.

As Head of Logistics, the ideal candidate will need to be a seasoned individual who has significant experience of logistics and freight management within the Automotive, Manufacturing or Defence industries.

  • Demonstrable track record of career growth within Logistics and Operations
  • Track record in operational delivery and excellence
  • Proven track record of building and developing high calibre teams and delivering excellence in terms of innovation, service and performance management
  • Proven record of contributing to the wider business and strategic agenda and leading commercial change.
  • Track record of successful delivery of projects including start ups, site turnaround and closures
  • Strong business / commercial acumen and with an understanding of customer needs.
  • Develops effective relationships and build a positive collaborative environment. Gravitas and personal style to enable senior management level relationship building
  • Able to create a vision and strategy for the business and manage people to deliver outputs.
  • Strong intellect, mentally agile, nimble and able to see trends and be proactive
  • Able to see the big picture, strong analytical skills and when required, able to focus into the appropriate level detail
  • Locally based in the West Midlands.
