As the Release Manager, Director you are responsible for the release management lifecycle including scheduling and coordinating releases across the company for different Platforms. It is expected for you to manage, plan and schedule deliveries of new products or features as well as bug fixes or operational enhancements through the release lifecycle across all of the platform environments.

The successful Release Manager / Release Director main responsbilities:

  • Draw a specific and predictable release process to monitor and coach other teams on how to follow it, providing guidance to all different teams at the company.
  • Build a Release Calendar, Release windows and cycles, accessible to all key stakeholders and clients, centralizing the view of all releases through close coordination with the Product teams.
  • Ensure Release Notes are produced and published in advance of all releases
  • Organise internal demos with Product to showcase new deliveries within each Release
  • Work closely with Client Success Management, Client Implementation, and Product Management teams to communicate release calendars and release notes with new and existing clients
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule, and quality of releases, continuously monitoring progress to ensure releases are delivered according to the Release Calendar and working towards making improvements in the release process.
  • Provide requirements to build automation tools to help in the release process. Alternatively, or additionally, propose specific third-party tools to help in the Release management.
  • Participate in the Change Advisory Board and any other required meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks
  • Encouraging & facilitating a move to more measurable, predictable, and testable releases (e.g., shadow deployments, canary deployments, etc.)

The ideal Release Manager will demonstrate the following:

  • A background in computer science or a related field with advanced knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
  • You may also have a project management background and some technical skills with thorough knowledge of feature toggles, branch handling, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Technical skills to organise the current map of Platforms versions and solve any issues that arise; hence you will need to be in possession of interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities to influence key stakeholders and resolve any cross-functional team issues.
  • Able to work under pressure in a very rapidly changing environment, and have a clear understanding of business needs and their priorities.
  • 6-8 years of previous Release Management or Service Transition experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in information systems operations environment in systems analysis or development
  • Advanced knowledge in Release Management in an Agile Software Development
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
