Great time to join this groundbreaking research organisation which has just received a huge investment. The purpose of the Head of Finance role is to provide the management team and investors with the strategic financial information to drive decision making and ensure financial control. You will be reporting directly to the Managing Director. Payroll, AP and AR will continue to be outsourced.

On the cutting edge of scientific research this university spin out is on the cusp of something significant and huge. They have received significant investment to enable them to progress from research to product development and production. This is a very exciting time to be joining the team.

The purpose of this role is to provide commercial support to the Managing Director giving commercial insight and decision support. You will be the only finance person in the business with finance administration outsourced.

  • Implement and maintain accounting & reporting systems that deliver accurate & timely financial information. Recommend other appropriate systems to improve of quality of financial information
  • Manage month-end close and produce accurate, timely monthly management accounts for the company and Group Finance
  • Provide critical analysis of material variances against budget, highlighting main drivers of the variances and recommended course of action
  • Manage the Budget & Forecasts process and prepare budgets & forecasts including capex
  • Manage the cashflow highlighting potential concerns and recommend course of action
  • Manage investments into the company from Group and external investors
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and suggestions for how costs can be better optimised to deliver quality support to the business in support of business strategy and operations
  • Support R&D tax credit claims

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant ACA / ACCA / CIMA with a strong understanding of finance systems and processes. You will have excellent communications skills and ideally experience of R&D environments.

£70,000 - £80,000 plus bonus and benefits
