We are recruiting for a Head of Legal to manage and co-ordinate contractual/legal needs and requirements via both internal resources and outsourced legal teams.

This Head of Legal role will include:

  • Delivering a cost effective, highly efficient legal service to the business and customers
  • Designing and delivering regular and bespoke reports
  • Act as a centralised resource providing effective cost management of legal costs for all projects

Candidates must be qualified to practice in the UK with PQE.

Experience in settling and resolving commercial disputes and a strong up to date understanding of contract law and commercial risk is essential.

Within this broad and varied Head of Legal job, more specific duties will include:

  • Build a robust legal function, lead, guide and coach a small team, helping them to develop their knowledge.
  • Reviewing contracts from Third Parties to identify and assess contractual and commercial risks.
  • Actively supporting contract drafting and negotiations.
  • Identifying, advising and supporting colleagues on contractual needs and requirements of new proposals and projects.
  • Control the engagement of all legal work, including cost management against agreed budgets.
  • Advising colleagues on commercial and legal risk, including ensuring colleagues understand and follow procedures set out in agreements.
  • Record and report progress on security during and after the legal process.
  • Mitigate the company's legal exposure to risk on projects.
  • Build rapport and liaise with legal services suppliers and ensure delivery against KPIs and SLAs set out in Service Agreements
  • Challenge legal advice and opinions on projects and agreements.
  • Liaise with Managers on new legal issues.
  • Develop, deliver, audit and maintain procedures and processes.
  • Strengthen the company's suite of standard documentation/terms.
  • Maintain efficiency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend improvements to develop and enhance the procedures to industry best practice.
  • Coordinate and implement changes as identified.
  • Review procurement contracts as and when required.

Experience in settling and resolving commercial disputes and a strong up to date understanding of contract law and commercial risk is essential.

Skills and experience required also include:

  • Demonstrate highly accurate numerical and analytical skills to provide both regular and ad hoc reporting and MI.
  • Ability to assess and deliver internal and external information against project scopes.
  • Strong focus to understand and balance the needs of both the internal customer and external customers delivering consistent levels of outputs.
  • Able to manage multiple workstreams, prioritise deliverables, work well under pressure and to tight, and at times moving, deadlines.
  • Ability to work alone and with initiative but understanding boundaries.
  • Embrace change and challenge processes to improve efficiency.
  • Ability to liaise with external professional suppliers/partners at all levels.

This is a great in-house opportunity, offering variety and management of a small team.
