I have been engaged by growing Biotech to recruit a IT manager to join the intimate team in the Camabridge based office.

This is a early-stage company that designs, develops and manufactures products that seek to revolutionise the way proteins are characterised. Our roots stretch back to a group of scientists who were inspired by the roles that proteins play in the biological world, driven to understand more about how proteins behave and function, but frustrated by the lack of suitable tools for protein characterisation. So they decided to invent their own.

They are looking for a highly motivated, business focused, systems professional to ensure our IT infrastructure is secure and supports the needs of the business. In this important role you will plan, organise, and control the organisation's data, systems processes, and overall IT experience. You will partner with people at all levels of the organisation across multiple geographic locations to deliver a scalable, best in class information systems experience for all employees. This is a stand alone role (no direct reports), currently supported by a third party helpdesk. The requirements of the role are to:

  • Be onsite in the Cambridge office to provide IT support to the business
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team to determine the ongoing IT requirements of the organisation, producing a strategic roadmap and communicating progress and change
  • Be accountable for IT project management, budget, training and outsourcing to support the business
  • Design and coordinate the implementation and control of systems, policies and procedures
  • recommend and implement the physical and cloud-based infrastructure strategy and architecture to support the business needs, providing advice and support to your customers
  • be responsible for data security, network access management and protocols and backup systems
  • Identification of problematic areas and implementation of solutions
  • Provide desktop support of end users
  • Audit systems and assess their outcomes
  • Managing external contractors (such as help desk) to ensure they provide excellent service levels to the business
  • Provide consultation and expert advice across a range of business systems, taking a hands-on approach where applicable
  • Review, edit and author documentation to meet the requirements of attaining ISO27001 and make sure we are compliant with GDPR

Systems

  • Ensure company IT infrastructure is operational
  • Responsible for the supporting NetSuite and other cloud-based business systems, including planning, resourcing, budgeting, and project management
  • Responsible for translating functional and operational requirements into operational solutions by closely working with the Senior Management Team and relevant key users
  • Manage business process testing, resource, and communication for ongoing NetSuite upgrades
  • Manage local servers (Windows and Linux), application server licences e.g. Solidworks PDM, SQL
  • Maintain company AD accounts and office subscriptions
  • Desirable but not essential, experience of managing StarLIMs software for Lab Services

You've Got This Covered:

  • 3+ years' experience in IT management, business infrastructure, EDI, and system integrations
  • Thinker and doer: from strategic implementation to rolling your sleeves up and supporting the team and customers
  • Experience of managing cloud infrastructure (i.e. Azure/GCP/AWS). Experience with DevOps in the cloud environment would be beneficial.
  • Evidence of Windows and Cloud server management essential
  • Experience and knowledge of GDPR compliance and meeting Quality Standards (ISO27001, ISO9001)
  • Experience of Microsoft office suite administration
  • Experience of supporting NetSuite or another ERP system related projects, including integrating with other systems is essential
  • Strong evidence of translating customer needs into efficient, scalable solutions
  • Strong business mindset and pragmatic approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of designing / developing IT systems/solutions and IT implementation to meet the needs of the business
