The vacancy position is for a Lab Technician based in Cumbria, working for a well-established international company that specialises in providing high-quality nutritional products and supplements. The successful candidate of the Lab Technician role based in Cumbria, will have the following responsibilities;

  • Perform routine testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as spectrometers, pH meters, moisture analysers, and microscopes, following proper procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare and standardise reagents, solutions, and samples for testing and analysis purposes.
  • Conduct physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on samples to evaluate attributes like texture, flavor, nutritional content, moisture levels, and microbial contamination.
  • Record and interpret test results accurately, maintaining meticulous documentation of findings and observations in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production, to communicate test results, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions if necessary.
  • Participate in the validation and verification of new testing methods, equipment, and processes as directed by the laboratory manager or quality control team.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory by monitoring stock levels of reagents, supplies, and equipment, and placing orders when needed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and maintain a clean and organised laboratory environment.
  • Identify and report any abnormalities, deviations, or trends that may affect product quality or safety.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in testing methodologies to contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

The successful candidate of the Lab Technician role based in Cumbria, will have the following skills and characteristics;

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field. Relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Lab Technician, preferably in a food manufacturing or laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, testing methodologies, and equipment used in food analysis.
  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in conducting tests and recording results.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently, follow protocols, and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that may arise during testing.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, and lift objects as required in a laboratory environment.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts and handle a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
