The successful candidate of the Legislation Specialist based in Cumbria will have the following responsibilities.
Regulatory Compliance: Monitor, interpret, and communicate changes in food safety and labelling regulations at local, national, and international levels. Ensure company operations align with these regulations.
Policy Analysis: Analyse proposed and existing legislation, regulations, and standards related to the food industry. Provide insights to cross-functional teams on potential impacts and necessary adjustments.
Labelling and Packaging: Review product labelling and packaging materials to ensure accurate representation of ingredients, nutritional information, allergens, and other required information as per regulatory guidelines.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of regulatory compliance, approvals, and documentation related to food products and processes.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with R&D, Marketing, Quality Assurance, and other departments to integrate regulatory requirements into product development, marketing strategies, and quality control procedures.
Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities and develop strategies to mitigate risks. Advise on appropriate corrective actions.
Training and Education: Provide training to employees on food safety and regulatory compliance matters, fostering a culture of awareness and adherence within the organisation.
Government Liaison: Establish and maintain relationships with relevant regulatory authorities, participating in industry working groups, and representing the company's interests in regulatory discussions.
Audits and Inspections: Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits and inspections related to food safety and compliance. Address any findings and ensure timely corrective actions are taken.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices within the food industry's regulatory landscape. Propose and implement process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency.
The successful candidate for the Legislation Specialist based in Cumbria will have the following skills and characteristics.
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Law, Regulatory Affairs, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Proven experience working as a Legislation Specialist, or similar role ideally within the food industry.
- Thorough understanding of food safety regulations, including but not limited to FDA, USDA, EU regulations, and Codex Alimentarius standards.
- Strong analytic skills to interpret complex legal documents and apply them to business operations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with industry-specific software and tools for regulatory compliance management is advantageous.
