We are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Matron to join a highly respected independent school in Cambridge, providing vital pastoral care and support to pupils in a girl's boarding house.

This is a term time only position (35 weeks per year), offering an exceptional opportunity to be part of a warm and purposeful community, contributing to the welfare and wellbeing of pupils in a nurturing, home-from-home environment.

As Matron, you will work closely with the Housemistress and wider House Team to ensure the smooth daily running of the House. Your responsibilities will include:

Providing a caring, supportive presence; identifying and responding to pupils who may be struggling; guiding them to make positive choices; and playing a key role in the induction of new students.

  • Health & Medical Support:
Overseeing daily 'surgeries', supporting minor medical needs, liaising with the School Nurse, and responding to emergencies in line with school policies and medical protocols.

  • Communication & Record-Keeping:
Ensuring accurate records are kept, sharing vital information with staff, parents, and external agencies as required.

  • Uniform & Laundry Oversight:
Helping maintain high standards of presentation and ensuring students' clothing needs are met, including laundry coordination and repairs where needed.

  • Previous experience in a pastoral, healthcare, or boarding school setting is highly desirable
  • A warm, approachable, and discreet individual with excellent communication skills
  • Strong organisational ability and a calm, empathetic manner
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

  • Working hours: 07:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday
  • Actual starting salary: £22,409 (FTE £28,694)
  • Parking onsite
