We are excited to share a great opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established company in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience with product development and precision component design, along with qualifications within Mechanical Design or Mechanical Engineering.

A key part of the role will be to design innovative solutions to meet the needs of the quality, design and production teams, giving you the opportunity to lead the process improvement initiatives.

Duties include:

  • Mechanical design responsibility for manufacturing, precision, mechanical and electrical devices
  • Ensure all compliance and health and safety requirements are met
  • Lead the design, test and introduction of new machinery, equipment, jigs and fixtures
  • Complete design of precision electro/mechanical devices
  • Implement process improvement initiatives
  • Proactively manage any potential production issues
  • Offer DFM (design for manufacture) & DFA (design for assembly) solutions to production processes
  • Offer production support to the R&D teams with new product introductions
  • Create and update SOP's
  • Investigate any quality issues in a timely manner

Ideally, the successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree within Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Product development experience
  • Experience of special purpose machinery
  • Precision component design experience (micron level tolerance desired)
  • 2D & 3D CAD System experience (solidworks experience desired)
  • Experience of producing high quality manufacturing drawings
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Innovative approach to problem solving
  • Previous knowledge of compliance and relevant safety legislation (machinery directive, pressure equipment directive, PUWER & LOLER regulations)
  • Understanding of mechanical assembly techniques
  • Capability to interpret SOP's
  • Ability to multitask, time and manage and work independently
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate
  • Understanding of LEAN Manufacturing techniques
