I am recruiting for a Senior Linux System Administrator for an established telecoms organisation close to Ely. The Senior Linux Systems Administrator will contribute to technology roadmaps, be the technical lead on projects to enhance our compute environment and provide break/fix and refinements to existing IT systems. The role requires the application of a wide range of skills, knowledge, and experience, to ensure critical IT services continue to operate at expected levels and are appropriately scaled to meet demand
The role holder should reinforce current IT practices, preserve a culture of sharing and be keen to develop new technical skills. A knowledge of emerging technologies and approaches will be essential to enhance the department and deliver value
The role requires a significant understanding of both computer and network security as well as exposure to network and firewall technologies
The activities you will be responsible for include:
- Define technology roadmaps for core IT services
- Contribute to the IT enhancement backlog
- Implement enhancement to existing technologies
- Research, evaluate and implement new technologies
- Provide business-as-usual / break-fix support for solutions deployed, ensuring that requests logged via the Service Desk platform are completed based on impact and priority
- Contribute to root cause analysis activities
- Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s) and resolution(s) of issues
- Create, review, and maintain system documentation
Experience and skills
(we do not require to have all knowledge of all of the below, this is the current Tech being used)
- A minimum of 4 years' experience in IT role
- Senior-level experience demonstrated through certification(s)
- Ubuntu Linux system administration (NIS, LDAP, DNS, Email, Proxy)
- Automation (Puppet/Foreman)
- NFS/Network Attached Storage
- Two-factor authentication
- Proxy and web filtering
- Virtualisation/Container technologies
- Bash/Python scripting skills
- License management (flexnet)
- Wireless infrastructure (preferably Aruba)
- Cisco networking
- Management of firewall technologies
- Backup technologies Veeam/NetVault
- Understanding of industry trends and emerging threats
- Experience of interpreting information from security analysis tools
- Practical experience of Cyber Essentials, ISO27001 or other appropriate security standards
- Access control and threat mitigation
- Strong technical problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- A-level / HND qualification
- ITIL qualification or equivalent IT Service Management certification or experience
you must already have, or be able to obtain, UK Security Clearance
